NYS Beginning Farmer Competitive Grant

Deadline

June 16, 2026

Amount

Up to $200,000

Region

NY

Eligible Projects

This program supports new and early-stage farmers in launching, improving, or expanding agricultural operations. Funding can be used for equipment, livestock, land acquisition, infrastructure, marketing, and workforce training. Projects must focus on building a financially sustainable farm business, including dairy operations, and demonstrate clear commercial viability.

Who should apply?

Beginning farmers (≤10 years of experience) operating or planning to operate a farm in New York. Applicants must be actively involved in the business and committed to building an independent, revenue-generating agricultural enterprise. Ideal for newer dairy producers investing in herd expansion, infrastructure, or go-to-market capabilities.

Lasso Tip

This is a strong entry-point grant with only a 5% match requirement, but it’s still reimbursement-based. Keep your proposal tightly scoped. Applications that try to bundle land, infrastructure, and equipment into one project are less competitive than focused, execution-ready plans.
